The Garden Variety Collection is a series of lace scarves/shawls inspired by the magnificent diversity we can find in our garden flowers,and the gorgeous colors of Handmaiden yarns. The patterns are designed for Sea Silk or Mini Maiden although other yarns of similar gauge can be (and have been) substituted successfully. Designs feature extensive crochet hook beading (optional) to enhance the lines of the patterns.

Poinsettia will be released mid-November and will be emailed free of charge to all who have purchased the four previously published patterns. Don't worry; Evelyn at Knitty Noddy and I have been keeping track of who orders what.

I rip out a lot more than I knit.

That is just plain unvarnished truth.


It took me AT LEAST ten iterations (quite possibly more - it felt like one hundred) before I finalized the design for Poinsettia.


One solid week of trial and error.


Mostly error.


I persevered, because I had faith.


Faith in my abilities...


Faith in God's guidance...


Faith in your appreciation...


Faith in the belief that there is nothing we can't accomplish : with enough love, enough inspiration, and enough hard work.

Yesterday was a pivotal day in our nation's history. Not because of race alone (although certainly that is part of it) but because together we expressed our faith.

Faith in the belief that there is nothing we can't accomplish : with enough love, enough inspiration, and enough hard work.

We face great challenges: as families, as a nation, as world citizens, as children of God.

We may well rip out more than we knit. Sometimes it takes a glaring error (or more) for us to admit the need for a new design. Often we want to pull our hair out in frustration and throw the whole mess into the bottom of the basket and give up.

And then there comes a ray of light. The stitches lie smoothly under our hands. The pattern emerges, strong and clear. And together, we begin to move forward.

By embracing a new design.

By daring to envision something better.

By having faith.

Thank you so much for all your prayers and support of Tyler and his family. Not all new paths are easy. Some are rough with uncertainty and potholed by grief.

As my friends move further into this lonely and difficult journey, it heartens me to know that so many are willing to shoulder part of their burden, to hold their hands, and to help Tyler find his way home.
