women of a certain age are like sunflowers; they know how to turn their faces to the sun.

Strider

Tinúviel elvanui
Elleth alfirin edhelhael
O hon ring finnil fuinui
A renc gelebrin thiliol... Tinúviel the elven-fair,

Immortal maiden elven-wise,
About him cast her night-dark hair,
And arms like silver glimmering...'

-sung by Aragorn (Strider) under the night sky en route to Rivendell

I finally got the pattern back this morning from the proofreaders, so here at last is the Strider cowl. YAY!!!

STRIDER COWL
$6

SIZE:
9 (18) inches tall by 20 inches circumference

MATERIALS:
250(500) yards worsted weight yarn
Sample knit in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Peru, color: Ravenscroft

size 5 (US) 24 inch circular needles (or double points/magic loop)
cable needle & stitch marker
Gauge: 7 stitches = 1 inch
intermediate level
charted & written directions

I have included directions in the pattern for completing a shorter cowl, as might be worn by a ranger for warmth whilst in the wilds of Middle Earth, or a taller hood, which can be pulled up to disguise your identity while loitering about in the Prancing Pony. Either way, Strider is a quick little knit, done up in worsted weight yarn.

Here are a couple of modeled shots, taken by me holding the camera at arm's length, so no comments on the photography please. I made mine in the shorter length.

The pattern is a fun little cable/lace combination that adds great depth & texture to the piece. I recommend at least a semisolid yarn to properly show off the pattern.

Now if I could just get the real Strider around my neck...yumm!
