Disgustions

Ravelry is a terrific resource. And a comfort in times of great need.

Some days you go to the boards and discuss.

Some days you need a little bit more.

Some days, you need to "disgust."

Today is that day.

To whit:

OK. Enough uplifting. I need to vent…

First my wi-fi failed; we got a new card.

Then my email server changed, causing all kinds of disruptions, including:

  • PayPal sending payments to never-never land because the address on the “pay now” button was different
  • Only being able to send one outgoing message, before dying on me.

I finally got everything changed over.

Then my computer ran slower and slower and s-l-o-w-e-r; we quadrupled my memory.

Next, my power cord got pinched and began cutting in and out before giving out totally; we found a replacement.

Over the weekend, I began having problems again with programs locking up; we replaced my disc drive (which meant I was without access most of the day, yesterday.

But finally, we had replaced just about everything. I had a souped up chassis - ready to burn up the virtual world. I could leap tall buildings with a single bound…

Well, at least I could design lace, print patterns, email buyers, and surf the web.

then today…

the final straw…

I opened outlook to discover my entire personal folder is AWOL. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

No contacts; no appointments; no messages; no mailing list; no task list.

Nothing. Clean slate. Fresh start.

When I try to repair file, it tells me the file doesn’t exist. Even though a search turns it right up.

I can see it, but somehow it isn’t there anymore.

You know how they say you can’t believe your own eyes?

Yeah. Tell me about it.

DH tells me he can recover the data tonight when he gets home. He tells me to chill out. He tells me to go do something else for the afternoon.

I feel like someone just erased me. So I came here, because here?

I have a past. I have a list of friends. I have…

me.

I feel like the "Who"s, yelling out:

I am here.

I am here.

I AM HERE.

I AM HERE!

I want love...

I want tea and sympathy..

Scratch that...

I want CHOCOLATE!

Or ALCOHOL!

(whatever gets you through the night day)

Ohhhh...I wish I could offer up more help than just sympathy and deep wishes of chocolate, tea...whatever it is that would help in this situation ;(

Please know that we are feeling your computer pains!

Oh, dear! It's earth-shattering when stuff like this happens. I've accidentally lost my blog and all its posts, and on another occasion my email address - the @ address - died. I've been frantic both times.

So, tons of sympathy and many hopes that your stuff can be retrieved. And that your newly souped-up computer works better.

Sympathy, condolences, and wishes of bountiful supplies of chocolate and wine! An astrologer would blame it on Mercury being retrograde (and sometimes it helps to be able to blame something or someone). I had to buy a new computer recently because my 8-year-old iBook made it clear it was going to break down and take my electronic life with it.

Just take deep breaths, and then have another drink and another bite of chocolate.

I hear you!

Time for a long cold drink.

Time for your beverage of choice - and maybe multiples of that beverage.

I hope all is well by now and you have had a peaceful night.

Here's a nice cuppa of Blackberry Sage and a Fudge Mint cookie for Later.

Computers are out to take over the world. They make us dependent on them and then lose data, freeze up, go dark or give us the dreaded BSOD. I am entirely too dependent on the technology and I know the day is coming when my computer says, "Sit there and let me pound on you for a while".

When it rains, it pours? :-(

Boy, that's dreadful! I hope things are looking up by now...

Days like that are best treated with margaritas.

Yikes! They said there would be days like this but when they happen, you're no more prepared for them.

Sip something soothing. Have a bit of delectable chocolate, then take a little lie-down because my dear, this, too, shall pass.

Ugh...computer problems are just horrible. My computer went down a while ago, and it's no fun at all. You never realize how much you use the silly little box until it stops working. I hope it's better soon! We're glad you're still here, and we'll be around when you manage to resurface. =)
