But especially for my Mom, who loved this song so much, she campaigned for its adoption as our national anthem. It was the first hymn sung at her memorial service.
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea
I am with your mom. I love that song and it should be our national anthem. (It's so much easier to sing!) I am having thoughts about patriotism and nationalism and independence day and what it all means. If you read Samurai Knitter(samuraiknitter.blogspot.com) she offered a slightly different slant on independence day. How diverse is the knitting community and how fascinating to read others' thoughts.
