Oh Beautiful

My Mother loved this song so much, she campaigned for its adoption as our national anthem. It was the first hymn sung at her memorial service. This one's for you, Mom...

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea

to shining sea!

Have a glorious Fourth y'all!

I agree with your mother - it's always been my favorite, too. Even when a childhood friend misheard the lyrics as "above the wounded brain". LOL!

Hope you had a wonderful holiday! :-)

....and to think Irving wasn't sure whether to publish it or not.

Simply beautiful, I can still hear Kate singing in my head.

My Dad always thought this was a beautiful anthem and would have agreed with your Mother.

We did have a beautiful weekend didn't we?

It's the song I think should be the national anthem. It brings me to tears (in a good way).

I hope you had a glorious fourth.

I don't check in on blogs as often as I once did. Wow...this post is beautiful...even after the 4th. I'm so thankful for God's creation...and His grace for our nation.
