New Tricks

"We have it in our power to begin the world over again."

Thomas Paine

It would appear that it is a brave new world, folks. I have so been enjoying your comments. Not because of the ego massage, mind you. I find that part a little embarrassing. But because I feel so connected to everybody.

When you work from home like I do, it is easy to wonder if there is anybody out there.

I know it is my own fault; I get busy and forget to put myself out there. If you don't respond to people, they begin to feel they are throwing their remarks into a bottomless pit from which nothing ever emerges...sort of like the WIPs at the back of the drawer; the bottom of the queue,

You know the ones - the ones marked on Ravelry with the snooze button.

Anyhoo...

Was checking to see how people got to my little website yesterday and discovered some, as the divine Martha would say, "good" things.

One is Knitting Pattern Central which sent over 300 people to my doorstep just by putting Stonehenge & Comely on their site. Amazing patterns - all free - now that's what I call public service!

Another is this site: p/hop, which stands for pennies per hour of pleasure. They raise money for Doctors Without Borders. Designers donate patterns free and the patterns are used to solicit donations. I have emailed them to inquire about donating a pattern. Good work!

The last is one I may live to regret. I found Miss Violet talking about Chrysanthemum on Plurk, which is a twitter type thing - or so I presume - have never tweeted in my life.

Anyway...I had to talk back, right?

So I registered - gulp!

Now I have a profile and a friend list and am expected to post my every errant random thoughts.

Do you guys have any idea just how many random thoughts I have in a day?

Brrrrrr....scary....I'm just sayin'...

If you want to be my friend, although it escapes me why anyone would be remotely interested, go here

Seems like there was something else I needed to share...

Hmmm...

What could it be????

OH YEAH! yesterday' s winner is (dramatize drumroll) Alex Debra! Email me and let me know what pattern you want.

And comment again today everyone, if you want to win. Share what great places on line that you have run across recently...

See? You CAN teach an old dog knitter new tricks!

I'm having so much fun...FA LA LA LA LA - LA LA-LA-LA...

Just to spread the joy around, I will be giving away a free pattern (of your choice - Spruce excluded) to one commenter a day through Christmas, randomly chosen by Mrs. Claus (just me - don't get too excited).

I'll announce the previous day's winner in each post this month, If you are the winner, email me your preference at susanpandorf@comcast.net and I'll email your pattern right out to you.

Doesn't that sound like a lot of fun?

Yesterday's winner is: Alex Debra. Email me, girl...

Now aren't you glad you left a comment?

That is exactly how I found you, through Miss Violets comment on Plurk. That is okay if you have numerous comments; it is the reason we are there ;-) to read those random bits of nothingness, oh yeah, and also those bits of importantness that comes along like your wonderful pattern.

Hugs and looking forward to friending you on Plurk.

I can't remember what pattern it was of yours that I first saw on Ravelry that brought me here, maybe Magic Carpet Ride.... But I admire all of them, and come back regularly to see what new things you've come up with.

Just exactly what did we do before all this technology? But without it, I would not have found your lovely designs. Thank you!

My favorite blog that I've stumbled upon lately is www.samuraiknitter.blogspot.com. There's awesome knitting content, and fashion content, and plant and food content, and it's just basically one great big good time.

I really don't know what we did before all this technology. :)

Dude, you are going to make my new year! There's so many patterns I love.

I can't say anything about joining stuff because of knitting. That's the only reason I'm on twitter; someone was giving away yarn, and I figured, "Why not?" It's a great way to keep up with indie dyers and fiber farms and all kind of knitting related suppliers.

I haven't signed up with Plurk yet though. I've read a few plurk posts due to Violet and a few other people.

I don't have that much commentary in a day, unless I'm chattering to my knitting friends through Messenger and Ravelry.

Besides reading Yarn Harlots blog (for fun) I go here http://knatolee.blogspot.com/ to get a few good laughs, when I need cheering up. She's funny, and I like her animal friends. :o)

I don't tweet or plurk, as I don't think anyone wants to know my scatter-brained thoughts. I'm mostly a lurker, and rarely comment. I should comment more, and I do enjoy your blog.

Sorry, should be "too" busy... my naff spelling. Please ignore this one for "winning" purposes. I promise I did not call your knitting Bruce!

Must learn to knit faster. Every time I think I can get through a pattern you post a new one I love.

Thanks for the free neckwarmer patterns. I don't know how I missed the post earlier--I have your blog set up on my feed reader but somehow that post escaped me. I might have been having a bad day. :)

Hi I really enjoy your patterns and your blog-seriously! Besides being inspired by all the beautiful and creative knitting so many are doing I also enjoy learning about different areas of the world-and we are really truly all the same. I am learning alot of American geography. I also love your intros-gives me pause to think

I got lured in by the sock yarn sales you started out with. I think I have more yarn in my stash because of your destash and have had to use a LOT of resistance not to have more! Thankfully the three hour difference sometimes also helps. ;-)
I'm working on a lot of handspun so that I can have them available for shawl making in the future. Lots of your lovely patterns to choose from too!

I second what someone else said on Ravelry: your patterns are beautiful!

I can comment from here till next year for a chance to win one! Nice idea; thank you for thinking of it

You are braver than I am by far, Facebook, tweet or whatever scare the heck out of me. I will lovingly stick to Ravelry and my favorite blogs Anne aka vibj

I signed up for facebook and twitter but guess I'm old because I can't understand what's so special. I'd rather talk to someone or get a detailed email instead of the one liners that get posted. OMG - I've turned into my mother!!

Thank you for the beneficial links. And thank you for your many inspirational posts, I always get something more than knitting from visiting your blog.

I absolutely love your blog and your patterns. I don't tweet, nor do I plurk. I do spend an inordinate amount of time on Ravelry - and then more time surfing from there.

thanks for being so generous with your creativity!

This is my first time visiting your blog. I saw your post in the Lace Group on Ravelry about the Countdown to Christmas. That is very generous of you! Now, off to peruse your blog and patterns :)

I've been reading your blog for so long I don't remember how I first came across it....must have seen one of your patterns on Ravelry (or perhaps a finished project on someone's blog that had a link?) I quickly became enamored of your patterns and bought quite a few. I intend to make them all for myself, probably the reason none are completed yet. Love the new Spruce pattern, I can't wait to see more of it! I also enjoy your reflective moments - it often gives me much to think about. I don't tweet or anything like that - too much of a time killer and I get enough of that from Ravelry! (I guess I'd rather be knitting!)

Sharon said...

I too love your blog...and the patterns! I don't tweet or plurk...if I want to knit, must keep my fingers free as much as I can.

I've been avoiding Facebook, but I'm beginning to think that resistance is futile.
One of my favorite online places is my local library's site - where I can download audio books. I love that I can "read" and knit simultaneously.
Thanks for all the gorgeous patterns. Now I've another reason to be glad I bought the 2009 series!

Still hoping to win!

I have things to say on my blog. I write comments on other's blogs, and I participate actively in Ravelry forums. I think that's enough of me posting, thanks. Facebook, not so much.

Kaz said...

wonderful shawl patterns , would love to have the time to knit them all

Suzanne said...

Tweeter, Plurk, Facebook, I have so far avoided all three. Using Dial up for internet is part of that. I plan to change that before the new year. Ravelry is my biggest time waster, though it usually isn't a waste as I am usually looking up a pattern or yarn.

Another day, another comment! It's like an advent calendar!

It's fun to learn about new things- keeps the brain young, and so, the rest of us too!

thanks Mrs. Claus!

It's incredible how technology influences life, isn't it? I was fortunate enough to stumble here some time ago after a Miss V podcast.

My husband works from home and he says the same thing about being out of touch with the outside world. I haven't heard about Plurk; I am too buried in Facebook, myself, these days. Some people Tweet instead. Still, you can get some quality chat threads with interested followers so have fun with it!!

I enjoy your blog, and do check it often. Your designs are lovely!

I have enjoyed both facebook and twitter. Most recently we have turned my 68 year old mom into a texting queen. She loves her new phone.

Don't feel stressed trying 'new media' - you'll find something you love! So glad for your awesome pattern coverage :)

Facebook is running rampant in my group of friends. Lots of fun and some wisdom now and then too!

I'm having a tough time finding a proper (non-internship) job after my Master's and some of my friends/family suggested I could start a own business from home. Well, besides the idea of an own business scaring me to death I always told them that was pretty exactly what I did not want: To sit at home alone all day without people to socialize. Whatever kind of work I have done in my life, colleagues have always been the fun part of it ... wouldn't want to miss that!

Perhaps you working-from-home guys should start something like an internet staff-room or so to talk to each other while working, so at least you do have some colleagues ...
I could absolutely see that being fun!

My husband is an obsessive 'Tweeter.' Seriously, everywhere we go he pulls out his Blackberry and laughs at something and types some stuff and then tries to join back into the REAL LIVE conversation in front of him. I find it annoying..can you tell? He also has to unfollow people on Twitter sometimes because they post too often (Neil Gaiman). Just be careful not to get too sucked in to this plurk thing. I hear it is just as addictive.

I started "Stonehenge" 2 days ago and have been enjoying the pattern immensely. I love the dense texture from the slipped stitches. Thanks so much for a wonderful pattern. The Rowan yarn looks yummy - I'm using my standby - Paton's Classic Wool.

I can't believe we are counting down to Christmas. I braved facebook, and now I find out there's twitter and some other wangle fangle things. Just thought I'd caught up on the modern world and now I'm behind again.. Ah well, knitting is more important to me. Good on you for all you do. Please send me the extra few hours you seem to have in a day:)
