What I Know For Sure

"I have tried to know absolutely nothing about a great many things, and I have succeeded fairly well."
-Robert Benchley

The other day, as I was driving, I had much on my mind. A relationship I had thought to be solid turned out to be permeable.

And I thought to myself, "How much can we really count on anything these days?"

The U.S. economy continues to worsen. We are seeing things we never expected to see in our lifetimes and we quake inside at what might lie ahead.

I remember the day I learned my Mom had a brain tumor. The day I met my future husband. The day I drew up my first design. The day I learned I was to be a grandmother. The day my position with my former employer became untenable and I informed them of my intent to leave. The day my DH was laid off. The day he was laid off again. And a third time. The day I started my blog.

In none of those instances, did I know what was coming. I got up, made my coffee, and thought it was going to be an ordinary day, rather than a pivot point in my life.

So what do we know? Really?

Not much, it appears.

Oprah has a column at the back of her magazine, titled, "What Do I Know for Sure?"

I found myself earlier this week, en route to what had the potential to be a disturbing meeting, pondering the same question.

What do I know for sure?

I know that I am no longer going to ship S7 sock yarn to Canada (Only option for on line shipping is priority and that costs $24.65 - YIKES!) Sorry...

I know that I love my work.

I know that I am not in charge.

I know that most of what I think I know may well be a mirage or a misconception.

When it all comes right down to it, I don't know a lot.

But I do know this:

I love.

And I am loved.

And that's not a bad place to start from.

I'll figure out the rest as I go along...

S7 yarn tomorrow, including some lovely lace yarns along with all those sock goodies!

Thursday's Child

"Monday's child is fair of face.
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe.
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving.
Saturday's child works hard for a living,
But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
Is bonny and blithe and good and gay."
Monday, my long awaited international customs envelopes were delivered. I worked on the Zen Collection patterns (enough so I knew the required yardage for each) and ordered my yarn accordingly.

And both the patterns and the postman (thank you! thank you!) who delivered my customs forms are fair of face...

Tuesday I needed to take the day off (GASP!) in order to tend to urgent family needs.

As we all know, love is essential to the giving and accepting of grace. Grace is more than something God gives to us. It is something we pass on to all the lucky people in our lives.

But Wednesday wasn't full of woe; it was a day that flew by in writing up the pattern for Sprout and posting it to all the appropriate places.

Then, last night, the woe manifested itself. Once again, I had trouble accessing DH's printer. Seems my laptop was out of the loop.

So DH fixed the problem last night. And today - Thursday - I sat down to finally print my shipping labels for this week's shipment of sock yarn and, more importantly, the long delayed Canadian orders, and discovered...

The printer is out of ink.

Are you sure it isn't Wednesday?

Really sure?

I am officially on the record. I want my own printer. I am sick and tired of coping with a temperamental diva of a machine that finds my laptop not worthy of recognition.

Thursday's child has far to go...

Orders out tomorrow.

If I have to wrestle the damn printer to the ground and hold a loaded ink cartridge to its head.

OY!

“ No ray of sunlight is ever lost, but the green that it wakes needs time to sprout. It is not always granted to the sower to see the harvest. All work that is worth anything is done in faith.”

Tidbits

"I take it to be a principle rule of life, not to be too much addicted to any one thing."
- Terence

Clearly, this is NOT a problem for me.

I am not addicted to any one thing.

I am addicted to MANY things.

Here's a peek at some of them ( in release order)

SPROUT

The Fibre Co. Organik
color: Jungle
release date: tomorrow

BLUE GENTIAN

The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering
color: Blue Crown
release date: March 3

EDDY
as in the water's motion, not the boy's name

The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering
color: River Dolphin
release date: mid March

SUGAR SNAP
at least I didn't name it "world peas"

The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering
color: Paw Paw
release date: mid/late March

CATCH A WAVE

The Fibre Co. Canopy Fingering
color: Macaw
release date: late March/early April

Gee...

Do you think I like this yarn, or what????

Not that I am hopelessly devoted to it or anything...

(Why do I hear Olivia Newton John singing in my head?)

I am also working on a scarf design for Knitty Noddy that is a bit of a departure for me.

No lace. Just texture. Wanted something to blend the colors. This slip stitch mock rib fits the bill. Tipping it to the diagonal gives it a fresh look.

And yes, it is that green. No enhancement necessary.

No name yet, but the yarn is called Cambyx. It's a silk camel blend.
color: Hemlock

And am looking ahead to summer, with the yarn sitting in the bottom tier of the basket. My Zen collection of organic cotton scarves.

Just look at those lovely sand-washed neutrals.... Perfect for hot summer days.

W-A-A-A-A-A-Y down the line...
